Unit of Purchasing Value (UVA)

The Unit of Purchasing Value (UVA) is a unit of account created by the BCRA in 2016, initially set at 1/1000 of the average residential construction cost per square meter (≈ $14.05 ARS). Its value updates daily in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI), preserving purchasing power over time. It is mainly used as the basis for inflation-adjusted mortgage loans, where the outstanding balance evolves with inflation rather than at a fixed nominal rate.
